So I get the Institut Francais’s newsletters because I’m a member and what do you know…they’re having a big book sale on the 15th of June, from 12pm till 7pm! For those who don’t know, the Institut is in South Kensington – and for any Francophiles unfamiliar with the place, quite a lot of it is basically Little France as there are quite a lot of French food shops and even a proper French bookshop around. (Fun fact: It’s cheaper to buy imported French books first-hand than it is to buy English books first-hand. No, I don’t know how this makes sense either.)
Oh, and you’re about 5-10 minutes away from the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, and you can very easily get to Imperial College London, the Royal Albert Hall and Hyde Park…
…Do be aware that the area can be intimidatingly posh, though.
Still, if you’re a bibliophile it should be well worth coming along to that French book sale – La Médiathèque is one of the best French libraries in England and often sell their books very cheaply, for a couple of pounds or less, so you should be able to pick up a lot of bargains.
And if you want to donate things, they accept that too – new and nearly new books, CDs and DVDs that are in French or about France are all accepted. Just arrange a drop-off by the 10th of June.
