To what are “contrarians” contrary?

I like this post, but why’s it just white men? (I’ve met contrarian white women too, for a start – I probably am one. And I’m fairly sure irritating pseudointellectuals are of all races and genders because it seems a bit of a stretch that white men, a relatively small proportion of the planet, are the only ones to be contrarian.)

Also, how is victim status prestigious? Victimhood is condemned in our society as a position of weakness, not a strength.
